"The design for this Quilt of Ships is as unique in its set plan as it is in the general idea. You see it is not just alternate blocks in checkerboard fashion, but strips of ships, single ships and border lines of ships all artistically embroidered and brought together with quilted squares for contrast. Then in the centre is a gorgeous panel, appliqued if you please, in natural colors, of the most breathtakingly beautiful sight a seaman ever beholds the full rigged Clipper Ship!
"Theres a row of our ancestral ships across the topone from each of the great nations of that day when the New World was discovered. Special Ships in our history are sketched to mark the eras of progress, the Santa Maria, Old Ironsides, Fultons Cleremont, etc., and types of craft that tell the story, too, the Indian canoe, trapper raft, tow boats on early canals, river packets and the multiplicity of harbor boats today. Our fighting marine has a section, youll find a lightship, lifeboat and even a gorgeous show boat, each telling its own chapter for the whole story of American Ships." |

"Whether you live on a farm, in a village, or in a city, you will be charmed with the Farm Life Quilt. Each block pictures some friendly scene or faithful animal and all of them together make a quilt that is interesting and homelike as it is comfortable to use.
"This paper will supply all the necessary patterns for the quilt free of charge. Each design will be exactly six inches square, will be printed full size in the paper and all you have to do is transfer direct from the newspaper, through carbon, to a nine-inch square of muslin or pongee. Then by following the instructions given with each number you can embroider, applique or paint the block and at the end of the series you can set them together to make this charming coverlet." |

"Nothing makes a more lovely and colorful quilt than flowers, and in this series you will find most every favorite of the garden. Each flower is simplified in design, so that it will be easy to work in outline or in applique and all of them finally group together as shown to make a lovely Flower Garden Quilt.
"There are 25 flower blocks in the series, many of them state flowers. Then we will give an exact quilting pattern for the alternate plain blocks and a pattern by which you can make the cunning little picket fence used on the borders." |

"Of course, we are using these blocks to make up a quilt for ourselves, our cousins or for somebody nice, but now that Christmas is coming soon, I do not know that there is any reason why we should not use these patterns to make some lovely Christmas gifts as well as keep the blocks for the coverlet. You know the block can be transferred from this pattern several times if you are very careful." |

" Do you believe in fairies? Mr. Barrie, who himself found out and told us all about Peter Pan asks this question. Of course, he believed in fairies, because he visited with the birds and the little people who live in flowers and because he knew Peter Pan.
"Fairies never come to work for lazy folks any more than theyll play for unbelievers. Are you willing to work a bit for the cunningest little quilt that was ever tucked around a wee bed?" |

"Bedtime is quilt time, and here is the Bedtime Quilt! Twenty little Quaddies from the Green Meadows and Forest and Smiling Pool are coming, in funny square shapes, to make a picture cover for the tiny white bed. These have been made just the size to trace onto a white muslin block, about eight inches square, and then big sister or someone can take some blue or pink or green thread and embroider them in a simple outline stitch." |

"To all the fond aunties who do handsome things for the very young generation, we dedicate this adorable new quilt. Oh, of course it was designed for the youngsters themselves, and hundreds of little girls will trace and stitch the blocks, but you can bet that grandmamma will be treasuring them too.
"There will be small groupings suggested for wee Janet or Junior that will make all girl or boy crib quilts, but children do graduate to their own big bed so soon that we are going to give you enough blocks to make a quilt to fit it." |

"The Roly Poly Circus Quilt will be a delightful addition to the nursery. All the loved animals will be there, from the pudgy bear to the alligator laughing at his own tail. The blocks are nine inches square; twenty blocks complete the quilt. The animals are worked in simple outline stitch on white muslin and set together with the color that harmonizes with the nursery. The patterns for these animals will be in The Star in the size in which the quilt requires. Keep this guide to follow in setting the quilt together. The Roly Poly bear will start the series in tomorrows Star. Cut out the patterns as they appear; no patterns will be sent on request." |

"Here are the drawings of all the state flowers placed together in alphabetical order to complete a quilt. Some of you have only saved the patterns for future reference or to give away, and some have been embroidering each one as they appeared until they have that part finished. Perhaps you have even put them together in sections and quilted, say, four or six blocks at a time, so that these sections will only have to be sewn together for your finished quilt. This is a modern trick, devised by the smart young woman of today whose house will not accommodate those huge old-fashioned quilting frames." |

"Here is a drawing of one of the cleverest kiddie quilts that you will ever find! When father was a little boy his mother probably told him about the three little pigs who built their three little houses of straw, and sticks and stone, and of the huff and the puff that befell the first two houses, while the sturdy little house of bricks and stone still stood!
"Its a great old story and children today are enjoying it even more than ever. And your quilt is assured of a future too, because new little fellows will continue to chuckle and shiver at the three pigs adventures for years and years to come." |

"Here is the cunningest little coverlet that ever made bedtime welcome to a youngster! He can peek out from his pillow into the 24 star-lighted windows of the Toy Shop Quilt and see there the gayest of playtime friends.
"Grown ladies will covet some child to make one for about as much as the children will want the quilt, so we do hope that you all can get together and many aunties, grandmothers, etc., make up the toy quilts for many, many girls and boys." |

"Here is a sketch of the handsome Wildwood Quilt that Ruby Short McKim, Americas best known quilt designer, has made especially for readers of the Dayton Sunday News. In this day of so many coverlets, a quilt has to be unusual indeed to merit attention, but our series of 32 beautifully colored flower blocks, each typical of some section of the country, certainly may lay claim to such distinction.
"All of the flower designs will be printed in this paper exact size to trace onto quilt blocks cut 9 inches square. Blocks of this size set together as shown with alternate plain blocks and border cut 6 inches wide will finish a large size quilt top, about 75 by 93 minus seams. The size may be varied to suit individual tastes by the width of the borders used. The first block will appear next Sunday, December 3." |
